UnLIMBited Prosthetics exists to increase access to customized lower-limb prosthetics by leveraging open-source design, 3D printing, and community-driven collaboration. Through a centralized platform, we connect individuals in low-income communities with nearby volunteers who can locally produce and deliver low-cost or free, custom-fit prosthetic limbs. By combining scalable technology with human networks, we aim to make mobility more accessible, equitable, and sustainable worldwide.
Our Story
UnLIMBited Prosthetics began with a simple question: why is life-changing mobility still inaccessible to so many people because of cost and geography? Inspired by the power of open-source collaboration and local manufacturing, we set out to reimagine how prosthetics are designed, produced, and delivered. What started as an idea has grown into a community-driven effort to turn technology and compassion into real-world mobility for those who need it most.
What We Do
UnLIMBited an open-source platform that enables individuals in low-income communities to access customized, low-cost or free lower-limb prosthetics. Using simple limb scanning and measurement tools, our system automatically customizes a base prosthetic design to fit each user’s unique anatomy. We then connect users with nearby volunteers who locally 3D print and deliver the prosthetic, reducing cost, wait time, and access barriers. Through community participation and open collaboration, we scale impact by empowering people to help others regain mobility.
